Iowa City Ice Storm 2007 edition

Iowa City woke up this morning to an ice storm that had been going since about midnight of last night, which means it's been raining ice for almost 12 hours now. Everything is coated in ice - cars, roofs, trees, shrubs....it looks pretty, but makes it very difficult to get around. It's also pretty eerie when the wind picks up and all those ice-covered trees start moving from the wind... Here are some pics:

For those of you who couldn't tell, these shots were posted by Inga and Soren, both of whom got to stay home from work today. Here on River Street we've had streams of water rolling off the roof, over the frozen gutters ito the yard and down the hill. Tree limbs are cracking under the weight of the ice and a car went into the ditch in front of the house. The driver, a doctoral music student from Alabama (said he's the student conductor of the marching band) fled the rain into our house to wait for the tow truck. That's the most excitement we've had. Well, besides the fact that FedEx and UPS are making Christmas deliveries :-)
Love you all! Lynn
